On Earth Day 2007, Mayor Bloomberg announced an ambitious long-term sustainability plan for NYC. PlaNYC has a projected completion date of 2030, and includes many goals but the core is to simultaneously improve the urban environment, economy and overall quality of life.[i] The plan has ten main goals to achieve a “greener, greater New York: Housing and Neighborhoods, Parks and Public Space, Brown fields Waterways, Water Supply, Transportation, Energy, Air Quality, Solid Waste and Climate Change”.[ii] The plan was recently updated in 2011, to reaffirm the plans goals, and continue to make it relevant to the challenges New York City faces today.
