Upon the bicentennial of the Commissioners Plan of 1811, Hoffman reflects on the history of the now infamous grid system and considers the effects that it has had on New York City. After considering both pros and cons of the grid, he concludes that the grid ultimately served to nurture the vibrant culture and community that distinguishes New York City even two hundred years later.

Upon the introduction of the new Zoning Resolution of 1961 that replaced the outdated 1916 Zoning Resolution, Tough and MacDonald consider the changes brought about by both zoning resolutions. 12) Riis, Jacob. How the Other Half Lives: Studies among the Tenements of New York (Kessinger Publishing, 2004).
Riis' s well known work recorded the living conditions of the slums with writing in details and large amount of photography. The photography included many parts of New York such as different views of streets and different housing units.
