New York City subway station A huge portion of the city’s sustainable development is transportation by providing sustainable, clean transportation to its citizens. New York City is already a leader and will continue to move forward. The city government hopes to improve and expand the options and infrastructure for sustainable transportation and alleviate congestion and improve the current road conditions.
New York City’s transportation system sees a large amount of goods and people each year. Even minor inefficiencies add up both fiscally and temporally. It is estimated that slowed production due to congestion annually costs $13 billion in increased shipping time and pollution related health problems. [i] Many New Yorkers already take alternative transportation but just under a quarter still drive alone. With limited fund in the transportation budget it is important to manage the current infrastructure responsibly. The maximum benefits need to be achieved for the most amount of commuters for the least cost, due to fiscal constraints.
